Why Tea Club? (and other random things)

Sometimes, artists get hung up on perfection. Most artists I know fuss and fret over lots of little details, trying to make a masterpiece each time. Hey, there's nothing wrong with that. But I've found that if you fret too much, you tend to lose interest, question why you started the project in the first place, and sometimes drop the piece altogether. Most of the time, though, you never even start.

I admit that this has been my problem. One of the main reasons why I stopped drawing comics was because I began to see it as work. Whenever I thought about drawing a page of sequential art, I was filled with dread over the detailed processes of pencilling, inking, lettering, and sometimes screentoning. At the same time, I thought it wouldn't be worthwhile to draw something unless it was going to be "perfect."

Well, after a long hiatus of not drawing any sequential art, I realized that I should just do it. Who cares if it's not perfect. What's important is that it gets done, and that I have a blast doing it.

I have no expectations with Tea Club, other than to have a good time drawing it.

Welcome to my online work-in-progress.

Story

Ah, college...a time for new beginnings, romance, and all-nighters. It's an insane life, actually--and a freshman catgirl is going to need the comforting powers of tea now more than ever! Luckily, Tallan University has its very own Tea Club with a very capable president.

Just don't hate him 'cause he's a bear.

Characters

Hana Neko (a.k.a. Haneko)
Age: 17
Year: Freshman
Race: Felin
Likes: TEA, ping pong
Dislikes: zombies

Haneko's parents are from the country of Felis, where a race of cat people thrive. Her family moved to Japan, where Haneko was born. She grew up loving tea; it was integrated in practically ever aspect of her life. Currently, Haneko attends Tallan University, USA, majoring in Physical Therapy.

She works part-time as a website mascot. Haneko also plays a mean game of ping pong.

Mr. Bear
Age: ??
Year: ??
Race: BEAR
Likes: Tea, basketball
Dislikes: flaky Tea Club members, coffee

There are many rumors about Mr. Bear's origins. However, his past remains shrouded in mystery.

He's a damn good president for the Tea Club, though. Never mess with a bear and his tea.

Kris Tran
Age: 19
Year: Sophomore
Race: Vietnamese
Likes: all sports (particularly cross-country), hair dye, coffee
Dislikes: the fact that she doesn't have a declared college major

Kris is Haneko's (slightly cynical) roommate. She's fairly active on campus, and is a part of Tallan University's cross-country and track teams. She enjoys all sports, though.
Her hair is currently dyed that reddish-auburn color that a lot of Asians sport these days.

Although Kris is usually fairly easy-going, she freaks out whenever people ask her what she wants to major in (she really doesn't know).

Kei Okuma
Age: 19
Year: Sophomore
Race: Japanese
Likes: track & field, dancing, eating
Dislikes: Ignorance

Like Haneko, Kei was born in Japan. However, he moved to the U.S. towards the end of his high school years. Kei is Kris' best friend, and is teasing Kris as much as he bails her out. He also runs year-round for Tallan's cross-country and track teams (but he likes track more).

Since Kei is pre-med, he and Haneko share similar classes. They also share quite a few interests. He doesn't really like ping pong, though.

Mr. Bear holds a mysterious respect for Kei.

more characters to come ^_^
